I missed my Zumba class when I was in Florida for the winter. Dancercize for the over 55 just didn’t cut it; it was way too slow. When I went to our Level Five gym in Delray (which we have prepaid for three years worth of winters), it had morphed into a mixed martial arts gym complete with a fighting ring. Now I have nothing against MMA, but it is not my thing. Still I found a pretty good Pilates class at the gym that I attended in lieu of Zumba. Neil still did the same Cybex loop as before.
My problem seems to be that I am at an awkward age in Florida—too young for Silver Sneakers, but too old for the adult Pilates classes where hard-bodied twenty-somethings rule. Let’s just say that I was the only one in the class without a pony tail and a tattoo. Who invented the side plank with one arm in the air anyway?!
Consequently, it was good to get back to my adults-of-all-ages Zumba class at the rec center. We have a great group of teachers, each with a unique style. We dance to a variety of music: salsa, meringue, calypso, and even gangham style. People yell, clap, and generally whoop it up because this class is grueling but also lots of fun. So, I’m happy to be back at the rec!

I'm much too timid and uncoordinated for Zumba! I'm glad you found something you like, though.
Everyone has to find the exercise she/he loves best. Otherwise, it's hard to get motivated. Zumba seriously elevates my mood.
