This fabric collage represents five generations of women in my family. I believe that the little embroidered bag, "Button, button, who's got the button," was from my great-grandmother. The buttons were collected by my grandmother, the kid gloves are from my mother, the fabric is mine, the doily was Aunt Helen's, and the pin shaped like a dragonfly is from my daughter.
I worked on this crazy collage last summer while making calls and waiting for calls to get my parents into assisted living. I found out that my mother who has dementia was wandering and "got in trouble with the police." She tried to walk to my brother's house and went into the wrong house. The owners called the police who took her home. Needless to say, I was frantic about the danger of her wandering and my legally blind father not finding her. Creating the collage channeled some of my frenetic energy.
