Love It or List It
I told my husband that when we got to our Florida condo this year we would decide to “love it or list it.” It is already our 5th winter season in Florida, and it is time to fix the place up or buy something else in the same area. By now we know we like spending the winter months in Florida, and Delray Beach is a fun area with lots to do.
We like our condo and the community it is in because it is a pretty and friendly place and a great location. On the plus side, our condo is spacious and has a very nice water view. In fact, the fountain which is lit up after dark is right in back of our unit. With all of the mirrored walls we have, it gets very sparkly at night.
Water View
On the negative side, we are on the first floor of a two-story building, and over the last few years, we have experienced numerous plumbing, leaking, and even sewage problems as a result of an older building. The unit above us is a rental, and the owner has not been responsible about making repairs. We hesitate to remodel when we know that leaks are likely to happen and ruin our efforts. So, our ideal would be a villa (no one upstairs) in our community with a water view, but none is available right now. I would also like three bedrooms if I decided to move. That is not a possibility at the Pines.
Water-damaged Ceiling
We visited some friends who just bought a condo at Indian Springs. Their condo is beautiful and a perfect size with 3 bedrooms. It has a stunning water view, beautifully landscaped, and a fountain just outside their patio. Love it. But the club house has a $5,000 per year membership fee. This does not include golf—just permission to go in the club house and use the gym, card rooms, etc. That’s crazy!
The next place I looked at was Rainberry Bay. It is right around the corner from us. It has a nice (free) club house with tons of activities. They have a theater with lots of shows: in fact, I saw Little Anthony and the Imperials there last night with my aunt and cousin. There are no two-story units other than townhouses. I looked at villas and single-family houses--all two bedroom. If we bought there, we might gain a garage, but not a bedroom. Nothing with a water view is available.
What to do? My hubby says remodel this place. He hates change, but would prefer changing this place to moving. Inertia is a powerful force, but I feel like I should keep looking. What do you think?

Keep looking Beth. You'll get him to come around.
Wow, that's hard. I'm not good at moving on...but I think it would be fun to look if you didn't give yourself a strict deadline. Maybe just noodle around? More usefully, you could do the plus and minus list of moving/renovating, add priorities to each item, and ask Neil to do the same. Sometimes it clarifies your thinking (if you like clear thinking, which isn't quite as much fun as fuzzy).
GB, you are always supportive. Our ceiling is getting fixed tomorrow, so that will help. I can look on the Internet, but any real looking around involves a realtor because all of the communities down here are gated.
