Aha! You may be thinking. So their little plan to avoid winter failed. Why, yes, it did. Now we are in a fine mess of broken limbs, decimated trees, falling leaves, and wet slush. The good news is that we hired someone to take down what is left of the Silver Leaf Maples--one in front and one out back. They are trashy, horrible trees whose roots are lifting up our driveway and making mowing very difficult. No damage was done to our house, cars, or heat pump although the huge falling branches came perilously close to all. It was very eerie to sit in the corner room of our upstairs on Saturday and hear "crack!" then ""crash!" and then see a big puff of snow. Tonight is Halloween. Poor little kids will have to brave the cold and what is left of the snow.

Early Snow

Wow, it reminds me of the ice storm of 1999 in NH. We lay in bed up under the eaves and listened to the cannonade of cracking limbs...and there was nothing you could do! It's a scary, helpless feeling. I'm glad you escaped much damage (and how smart of you to use the pretext to get rid of invasive trees!) Time for warmer climes.
