R.I.P. Bob
NEVER go away for weeks in July when you have a big vegetable garden. Before we left, Neil built a better fence that was tall enough to keep the rabbits out, but it didn't keep the vegetables in. Sadly, one of our neighbors came over to check on things while we were away, and when we got back he was DOA. It appears that he got "squashed" by the butternut vines or strangled by the watermelon vines. Either way, it's very sad. We'll miss Bob.
Had we stayed away another week or two, the vines might have climbed up the porch screens and covered the house. Good thing we got back just in time.
Right now I'm buried under an avalanche of tomatoes. The beets have stained my fingers permanently red, and I've got more peppers and carrots than I know what to do with. Neil says that I'm over exaggerating this whole thing. I say, but what about Bob?
