65th Birthday Blog

Today is my birthday, and it is official:  I am a senior citizen.  I regard ages 60 to 64 as "young old."  I guess then 65 to about 79 would be “senior.”  Eighty and above could be called "elderly."  Of course not everyone fits in these boxes.  Some of my friends in their eighties are very young at heart.  So, I sure hope that it is an attitude rather than a number or a label.

Some events of this past year made me feel old.  You know you are a senior when,
·         You need physical therapy for an injury
·         You get your Medicare card
·         You no longer have to worry if you are old enough for the senior discount
·         Your third grandchild is born
·         Your ”baby” brother is about to turn 60

I have been writing my blog now for 5 years.  At this point, I’m averaging only about one blog per month.  I think that in past years I have written twice as many.  That’s OK; I still have plenty to say.  I keep a file of clippings and ideas of topics for blogs.  If I am not posting as often, it may be that I am just too busy.  Or could it be that I am slowing down?  Nah.
Here are some things that make me feel like I am still young:
  • Doing Zumba at the rec center
  • Playing 18 holes of golf twice a week
  • Keeping up with Neil
  • Playing with my grandsons
  • Laughing with my friends

For my birthday dinner, we went to the Rusty Scupper at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.  We met my brother Ted and his wife Joyce there, and Ted will soon be celebrating his 60th birthday.  So there were gag gifts for the two of us with milestone birthdays in addition to a delicious dinner and a spectacular view.

Life is good.
