The Vision
The Reality
I am addicted to HGTV (House & Garden Television). One of my favorite shows on this channel is Curb Appeal. The idea is to take an unappealing front yard, and through painting, repairing, landscaping, etc. make it into something that looks inviting from the street. Ultimately, this new look would attract buyers and quickly sell the house.
I recently came up with an idea to add some curb appeal to our house. It all began when we had two enormous trees taken down after the very wet and destructive Halloween snow last year. Now we have two big ugly stumps waiting to be ground up by a man named Lester and some hideous and ancient arbor vitae which simply must go. In their place, I would like to add an arch and picket fences on each side of it. I would plant climbing roses on the arch and flowers in front of the fence. These improvements would definitely set off our home very nicely. Although we are not planning to put our house on the market, someday we will, and additional curb appeal would help.
The stumbling block is that my husband does not like change, especially change that involves work and cost to him. Who can blame him? So, either I must learn to operate a chain saw and install a fence, or I must convince my husband to embrace my plans. Stay tuned...

This sounds much like some of the conversations that take place here at hamish Archibald! Go for it Elizabeth!
I suggest bribery, along with guilt and incessant nagging. If that fails, try getting a quote from someone who would charge plenty. Of course, I would never use these techniques myself...god forbid...I assume you already have the watercolor hung in a prominent place?
Ha, ha, dear friends. Your comments suggest a common denominator among couples. Most comforting.
