Are you watching me?

The theme of my last visit to my grandson had to be “Are you watching me?”
Amazing as it may seem, a four month old has awareness of audience. Sure he rolls over when no one is watching, but clearly he enjoys the encouragement of our cheers. He checked to see if I was watching him when he was being changed, fed, dressed, and especially when he was rolling over on the floor or bouncing in his chair.

The answer is “Yes.” Of course I’m watching you, Eli. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Oh, he is the cutest, no need to be biased. He looks like he's figuring out a lot of things in there - I wonder if his personality is already in place or being formed now. What do you think???

That is a very good question. It boils down to the old hereditary vs. environment conundrum. Personally, I think it's half and half. We probably look for the parents' traits in children and encourage those (good) traits when we see them. So, sometimes it is environment pushing heredity.
