Dock o' the Bay
We recently spent a weekend at my brother and sister-in-law's vacation home near St. Michael's on the Chesapeake Bay. It's a lovely, quiet spot filled with deer, seagulls, herons, and, of course, crabs. The homes are spaced far apart on tree-filled lots along the shore because of restrictions meant to protect the Bay. The newest law requires a land parcel of 20 acres in order to build a new house. (That'll keep the riffraff out!) Amazingly, the eastern shore of the Delmarva Penninsula remains quite rural and agrarian even though it is in close proximity to major metropolitan areas: about two hours from Washington, DC; Wilmington; and Baltimore. Small towns like Chesapeake City and St. Michael's are well preserved, historic, and charming. This whole area is a treasure worth protecting.
