UN-Quotable Quotes

Whenever a woman says, “My husband never tells me what he’s thinking,” I can’t help but wonder—wow, what would that be like? My husband seems to have an opinion on everything and is very vocal about what he thinks. Over the years, Neil has said some pretty crazy things. Here are a few Neil-isms that I remember.

On Marriage

“I’m not thinking about getting married, but if the right person comes along, I might do it.” (Stated on one of our first dates)

“Honeymoons should be earned and not given.” (Well, If I haven’t earned one by now…)

On Raising Children (and in response to my worrying)

“Let them make their own mistakes while they still have a safety net [of living at home] beneath them.”

“He’ll cope. Don’t worry about it. He’ll cope. I’d like to sleep with a different woman every night, and I cope.”

On Politics

“Yes, I think a woman could be President as long as she has a hysterectomy first.”

“If I were Secretary of Health, all my employees would be Democrats and dog owners because they are compassionate people.”

On seeing Cirque du Soleil for the first time

“I can tell the difference between the Democrats and the Republicans in the audience. The Democrats are worried that someone will get hurt. The Republicans are wanting to see someone get hurt.”

On being asked to join a men’s club

“I don’t join clubs. Men don’t join clubs. Men are for doing things. Clubs are for women-y things….Is that sexist?”
